Project description:
When Wonder Promotions and Events partnered up with CrossFit Northlake in 2014 to put on our first Goddess Games, our goal was to give women a safe, encouraging, and positive environment to see their athletic potential. We wanted to instill a sense of confidence in the athletes, while also inspiring those around us. Goddess Games has always been about women helping women, inside and outside of the gym walls.
In 2016 and 2017, Goddess Games raised money and awareness for the Charlotte Rescue Mission and Dove’s Nest. Charlotte Rescue Mission is transforming lives in the name of Christ by serving people struggling with addiction, poverty, or hopelessness with the goal of returning them to society as productive, self-sufficient citizens. Their long-term residential recovery programs are free of charge. They have been serving the Charlotte Community for 78 years.
In 2008, Dove’s Nest Capital Campaign was launched to expand Dove’s Nest women’s addiction recovery program from a 12-bed facility to a 120-bed facility. For the first time in their history, the Mission is now able to serve children as well as their mothers, with beds for 90 women and 30 of their children. While their primary focus is addiction recovery, CRM’s professional counselors are helping women heal from so many wounds; over 90% of the women have been victims of abuse – childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, and even sex trafficking. In addition, they have a new “Families Program” that teaches parenting skills and helps moms and their kids practice their skills and restore a healthy relationship.
Goddess Games 2016 added Novice and Teen Divisions to the individual competition. 2 Person Teams were Rx and Scaled Divisions.
